In recent weeks, more than two million Pakistanis fled their homes and villages — often with little more than the clothes on their backs — as fighting between government forces and radical insurgents has escalated.
The UN Foundation recently stepped in to give a hand to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and provide bed nets to people who now face an imminent risk of malaria with the rainy season starting any moment now.
Hundreds of UN Foundation supporters responded to an emergency appeal for help in the last couple of weeks, raising enough money to send more than 1,000 bed nets – and a match from a generous donor doubles that to 2,000 nets.
UNHCR has been working non-stop to provide safety for as many refugees as they can in camps, but families continue to arrive daily and there is still a need for nets. If you would like to contribute to this effort, you can make a donation to the UN Foundation to send nets to families in Pakistan, and your gift will be doubled.
