The Global Fund: 10 Years of Saving Lives

January 26 2012

Today, we join the UN Foundation and our partners in the global health community to celebrate the life-saving work of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

What is the Global Fund? Good question. It’s a public-private partnership that raises money from world governments and international organizations to stop the spread of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria and distributes resources where they are most needed. The Global Fund provides two-thirds of world’s funds for malaria prevention and treatment.

Over the last 10 years, the Global Fund has committed $22.6 billion in 150 countries to support large-scale prevention, treatment and care programs against malaria, TB, and HIV/AIDS. The best part? The Global Fund is doing its job, and doing it well. The Global Fund’s work – with the help of supporters like you – has had a huge impact on global health; including helping reduce malaria cases worldwide by 17 percent since 2000.

Want to join us and show your support for the Global Fund? Here are a couple ways to get involved:

  • Watch “A New Picture of Health” -- a documentary about the work of the Global Fund and its ongoing impact in saving millions of lives around the world. Narrated by Dr. Jane Goodall, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, the film includes personal stories from community health workers, patients, and community leaders to show the impact of the Global Fund’s programs in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Indonesia.
