Take Action in 2015

January 15 2015

2015 is a monumental year in the fight against malaria. This year, leaders from the United Nations are debating a new set of world goals for the next 15 years – and we hope that ending malaria will be part of these goals.

In 2000, the UN released the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a framework for development for the last 15 years. Those goals were pivotal in creating a better world for everyone. For malaria, the MDGs sparked huge progress and saved millions of lives – 55 countries are on track to reduce their malaria burden by 75% and the malaria target under MDG 6 has been met. The Global Fund and the President’s Malaria Initiative were created, along with Nothing But Nets and other organizations fighting malaria, and millions of life-saving bednets and other malaria interventions have been delivered to families around the world.

So what’s next? In the draft set of new development goals, ending malaria is a key target under the health goal. In September, the UN will approve the final set of goals for the next fifteen years. But now is the time to raise your voice and tell the UN that you support defeating malaria.

Today, organizations and individuals around the world are making their voices heard to ensure world leaders set new, ambitious goals that deliver transformational change. You can join the conversation about malaria! Tweet today so the UN knows you support the fight against malaria and its inclusion in the goals.
