It’s only July and we’ve accomplished so much already in 2010. World Cup ends in just a few days, so we wanted to share some highlights from our United Against Malaria partnership, the Buzz Tour, and of course, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
- More than 27,000 supporters signed soccer balls, petitions and messages to show they are United Against Malaria, and are committed to end malaria deaths by 2015.
- The Nothing But Nets™ Buzz Tour visited 16 cities (wrapping up this week in Houston) and dozens more towns in between on our drive across the country, leading up to the World Cup. Thousands of you have come to hang out with our team and Mozzie at soccer games, in museums, on boardwalks, at schools, and more to help spread the buzz.
- United Against Malaria, a coalition of soccer teams and stars, governments, NGOs, and of course, the UN Foundation and Nothing But Nets helped raise awareness about preventing malaria through the sport of soccer in the last year. It has brought together people like Seattle Sounders FC owner and actor/comedian Drew Carey, U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan, our Champion Katherine Commale, and even the White House.
Our progress toward ending malaria deaths by 2015 wouldn’t be possible without your support. You came out to our Buzz Tour events, signed soccer balls, slept out, and United Against Malaria – let us know in the comments if you saw us or the Buzz Tour bus!
P.S. Two team members are headed to South Africa for the final days of the World Cup as you read this, so check back here on NothingButNets.net for updates, or follow us on Twitter or Facebook!
