Partner Spotlight: Parachute Home

July 18 2019

Six years ago, 35-year old Ariel Kaye had a bold business idea that would disrupt the bedding industry: To create a premium bed sheet brand that was high quality, direct-to-consumer and socially conscious. When Ariel launched Parachute in 2014, she partnered with Nothing But Nets to donate a bed net – ‘a safe night’s sleep’ – for every purchase of their signature Venice bedding set.

Parachute, now one of the world’s fastest-growing home brands, has raised over $300,000 for Nothing But Nets through Venice set purchases and additional customer donations. These funds have been used to distribute over 30,000 insecticide-treated bed nets to families in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America who live in malaria-affected regions. That is more than 30,000 families who can enjoy a restful night’s sleep knowing they are protected from the mosquitoes that transmit malaria.

In 2017, Parachute sponsored Nothing But Nets’ virtual reality film, “Under the Net,” which transports viewers to a Tanzanian refugee camp where, sadly, malaria is the leading cause of death. The 8-minute film, which tells the story of an 11-year old girl named Amisa, has inspired thousands of viewers to support the global fight against malaria. Parachute’s sponsorship was integral to the film’s production and promotion.

Once online-only, Parachute has opened 7 retail stores – in LA (Venice and Silver Lake), New York, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, and Portland. In addition to bed sheets, Parachute offers a wide range of home essentials, including premium towels, mattresses, rugs and baby blankets. All Parachute products are safely made without any harmful chemicals or synthetics.

Six years into the Nothing But Nets partnership, Parachute’s Venice bedding set is still a best-selling product. Every day, Parachute consumers are providing life-saving bed nets that protect families from malaria. For Ariel, the decision to embed charity into her business was inspired by her mother.

“My mom works in education – specifically educating teachers on how to incorporate service into their curriculum – so building a socially responsible business was fundamental,” Ariel said in a 2015 interview with The Montauk Beach House. “It’s essential that Parachute delivers great sleep to our customers, and in turn, provides safe sleep to those in need.”
