This week President George W. Bush appointed two Nothing But Nets Champions – Ruth Riley with the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars and Diego Gutierrez, retired MLS player, formerly with the Chicago Fire – to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
18 people were selected to serve on this council as advisors about physical activity, fitness and sports in America. Both Ruth and Diego have been active Champions for the Nothing But Nets campaign. A year ago they both traveled to Mali to help distribute over 2 million bed nets to children to prevent malaria. Diego's work was also recently recognized by MLS Commissioner Don Garber - watch the tribute video here. They continue to encourage their teammates, fans and communities to send a net and save a life. We are so proud of Diego and Ruth for this appointment and congratulate them! Way to go!
