The Nothing But Nets team recently traveled to Denver to co-host a women's lunch with Major League Soccer's MLS W.O.R.K.S. The event brought together female leaders from the Denver area to talk about malaria prevention and Nothing But Nets. During the lunch Ginna Gutierrez, national spokeswoman for the campaign and wife of MLS athlete Diego Gutierrez, spoke to the room about her family's support of Nothing But Nets. Ginna brought tears to some guests' eyes when she spoke about how she feels compelled as a mother to help African mothers protect their children from the deadly disease.
After Elizabeth McKee, director of Nothing But Nets, spoke more about the work of the grassroots campaign and the use of insecticide-treated nets, she engaged the group in a dynamic discussion about ways the Denver community can join Nothing But Nets to support malaria prevention. Great ideas were thrown out - such as interfaith gatherings, youth conferences, and U.S. peace Corps engagement. Nothing But Nets is looking forward to its next trip back to Denver to start making these ideas happen! Stay tuned for more information.
