There was a whole new kind of buzz at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. last week during the MLS Cup, as Major League Soccer and Nothing But Nets teamed up once again to spread the word about malaria prevention!
It was a busy morning as MLS W.O.R.K.S. invited Nothing But Nets to host a booth at the MLS Cup Soccer Celebration in front of the stadium. I had a great time talking to the hundreds of fans who made it out to the booth to learn more about the Campaign. Their excitement was infectious. We even raised enough money to send bed nets to protect 136 people! Nothing But Nets spokesperson, Diego Gutierrez of the Chicago Fire, even came out to greet soccer and Nothing But Nets fans alike.
And the fun didn’t stop there! During the pre-game ceremonies, MLS Commissioner Don Garber presented Elizabeth McKee Gore, Director of Nothing But Nets, with a $30,000 check for the Campaign! We are incredibly grateful to MLS W.O.R.K.S. for such a generous contribution
Almost 40,000 people were in the stadium to watch the game between the Houston Dynamo and the New England Revolution. During halftime, the new VH1 Nothing But Nets ad was shown on the JumboTron. The ad, which features a comical human-sized mosquito, drew a lot of attention from fans! The game was a close match, and Houston clinched the win with an amazing second half and a final score of 2-1. Dwayne de Rosario scored the winning goal in the 74th minute for Houston and took home the title of MLS Cup 2007 Most Valuable Player!
Stay tuned for more from Dwayne as he travels with Nothing But Nets to Mali next month!
