Looking for Change

TyAnn Caldwell, Kate Overton, and their classmates at Jackson Elementary School in Oklahoma are well on their way to reaching their goal of raising $1,000 for Nothing But Nets.  Their great idea? Collecting change to make a change. 

In a school where the majority of students are on free and reduced lunch, the students were able to raise over $375 during their first morning of fund-raising.  The school, parents and entire community have really rallied to show their support for the students and Nothing But Nets. 

Sometimes, all it takes is a little change to make a difference.

This has become a key point for the group of 5th graders. During class this month, they read an article about malaria in Africa and the Nothing But Nets campaign.  Two of the students, TyAnn and Kate, were particularly moved and decided they wanted to make a difference.

The girls started to work together and went to their teacher for help.  With their teacher’s support, TyAnn and Kate were able to give presentations about Nothing But Nets to every class; pretty soon, the principal and the PTA were on board.

The girls set a lofty goal of $1,000 for bed nets!  For the next two weeks, the students will host a booth in front of their school to raise money.
