As a part of the Kick It Malaria Challenge, Nothing But Nets and MLS W.O.R.K.S. traveled to Orlando last Saturday and were joined by 6,000 youth soccer players, 25,000 soccer fans and 4 Major League Soccer players to raise awareness about malaria and raise funds for life-saving bed nets for refugees. Overall, the Kick It Malaria Challenge raised more than $3,000 for Nothing But Nets!
The presence of Nothing But Nets champions Dwayne De Rosario and Diego Gutierrez, along with Kevin Hartman and Jimmy Conrad from the Kansas City Wizards, was electric. A thousand soccer players watched these guys in action during a skills demo and then lined up to get their autographs. A few lucky participants won the raffle and received autographed gear – including Kevin Hartman’s gloves! – while the top fundraisers were invited to a private meet and greet with the MLS players at Epcot® later that evening.
