Keep Refugees Safe From Malaria

May 25 2012

More than 130,000 refugees and counting have fled fighting along the border between Sudan and South Sudan. Thousands more are arriving at Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya every month. The camp, home to nearly 95,000 people, is over capacity, and new arrivals must stay in temporary shelters of plastic sheeting until they can build semi-permanent homes of mud brick.

No matter what kind of home each refugee family makes on this hot, dry patch of land, they need an insecticide-treated bed net to stay safe from malaria. This preventable disease remains the leading killer of children under five in South Sudan. And the extreme heat at Kakuma means nets don’t last as long, and need to be replaced more often.

Help us distribute 100,000 insecticide-treated bed nets to South Sudanese refugees. We’re halfway to our goal—it just takes $10 to send a net and save a life today!
