It's "Cool" to Save Lives

June 03 2008

Yesterday, Nothing But Nets was featured in an awesome article by the New York Times, that talked about how some of our biggest supporters come from the youngest people, like church youth groups, student athletes, and – one of our top fundraisers – Katherine Commale, a 7-year-old, who has raised $43,000 with the help of her mom. If you want to join or sponsor Katherine's team, check out One Bed Net At a Time.

The piece sends an important message – that giving to charity and saving lives can be "cool." Instead of saving up for months to buy a new toy, iPod or bike, kids are helping kids in Africa by giving $10 to buy a bed net.

Do the cool thing: send a net and save a life!

The Commales
This family has been steadily fundraising for Nothing But Nets since 2006, when they began reaching out to churches near their home in Pennsylvania. Their first big milestone was raising $10,000 for the holiday season that year, from handmade gift certificates they made for people to buy bed nets in honor of a friend or family member.

In 2007, Katherine and her family participated in the NothingButNets.net launch in New York City, and later, appeared at the White House for the first Malaria Awareness Day. The Commales continue to raise even more money for Nothing But Nets, and are an inspiration for Netraisers everywhere!
