The Nothing But Nets team has been traveling throughout the country over the past two weeks, including New York City (twice!), Philadelphia, San Francisco and Atlanta. While all of these trips have involved great visits with partners, Champions, and supporters, our trip to Atlanta was a very special experience because of the amazing members of long-time Nothing But Nets partner Usher's New Look Foundation (and because we got to meet Usher!).
Usher's New Look Foundation invited Nothing But Nets to participate in their annual World Leadership Conference and awards ceremony. It was exciting to meet so many young leaders from across the country and to hear how they've been giving back to their communities - including sending nets and saving lives with Nothing But Nets!
I also presented the Legacy Service Award to the UN Foundation's Chairman and Founder, Ted Turner. My role was to introduce Zawadi Garrett, an amazing member of Usher's New Look Foundation and high school senior from Harlem, New York. Zawadi worked tirelessly and strategically to sell hundreds of umbrellas through her church to raise money to send bed nets to families in need in Ethiopia. Zawadi is just one example of students doing incredible things to save lives through Nothing But Nets.
It was an honor to be able to spend two days with everyone at Usher's New Look Foundation. It was inspiring to witness the talent, passion and comraderie of these teenagers, and see just how much Usher's New Look Foundation has done to make a difference in their lives. We are proud to partner with such a great organization.
