Today marks the 69th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. We know that the work we do around the world would not be possible without our partnerships with UN agencies such as the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) the World Health Organization. So how can you celebrate? Here are a few ideas:
Take action.
Champions like you have inspired us to take action in our communities. We’ve seen all of you host everything from bake sales to five mile runs to support the work of Nothing But Nets and our UN partners. This UN Day, host an event in your community to raise awareness and funds for all of the work the UN does around the world.
Get social.
Raise awareness about all of the work the UN does – from protecting families against malaria to vaccinating the world’s children. Share Ban Ki-moon’s message that we must all work for the “common cause for the common good” on social media using #UNDay. This is an important year for the UN and we must all stand together to reaffirm our commitments to social good.
Express your gratitude.
Take the time today to thank all of the UN peacekeepers around the world. Every day, UN peacekeepers risk their lives to rebuild societies and serve those most in need. On the anniversary of the founding of the UN, we can’t help but think of all of those working on behalf of creating a better world.
Enjoy a concert.
In honor of UN Day, the UN is hosting a concert! An international youth orchestra and UN Messenger of Peace Lang Lang will be performing to commemorate this special day. We’ve even heard that Sting will be making a special appearance. For those of us who can’t be at the UN to enjoy this celebration it’s all being livestreamed here.
Send a net. Save a life.
We need more nets to protect children and their families from malaria. Every $10 you send helps to protect a family in sub-Saharan Africa from the disease. Donate $10 and ask your friends to donate too!
So what are you doing for UN Day? We would love to hear some ways that you’re celebrating today.
