About seven years ago, Simon Estes, like many others, was unaware of the devastation malaria has caused in Africa. But word of the disease reached the opera star’s ears, and on Monday, the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign honored him with its Lifetime Impact Award for his work fighting against the mosquito-transmitted illness.
