Chicago Sky Helps Us Reach New Heights!

July 30 2007

On Friday night the Chicago Sky helped us wrap up a month of Nothing But Nets activities in the Windy City, and combined with the efforts of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Fire, has surely set the bar high for other teams and partners to follow!

During their Friday night game against the Phoenix Mercury, the Sky hosted a Nothing But Nets night to educate their fans about malaria and raise funds to purchase life-saving mosquito nets. One of the coolest parts of the night was seeing all the players – both the Sky and the Mercury – warm up in orange Nothing But Nets t-shirts. All the players signed the shirts which were later auctioned off during the third quarter.

Continuing to prove that Chicago teams are working together to fight malaria, Diego Gutierrez (Chicago Fire midfielder) and his family attended the Sky game. During the break between the first and second quarter, Diego was center court, letting the Sky fans know the impact of malaria and how simple it is to help, while his wife and three children held up a blue mosquito net.

And with a “ready, set, go” for the next 60 seconds, volunteers canvassed the UIC Pavilion, collecting donations from the fans. By the end of the night, Chicago Sky fans raised over $3,000! That’s a new record for an in-arena night!

Thank you Chicago for an incredible month. We hope other cities around the country can match your generosity.

Next stop…Houston…
