A Mother's Day Message

May 12 2013

Motherhood - from start to finish - is miraculous. For me, being a mom (I have a 2 1/2 year old and one on the way) is incredibly joyful, humbling, empowering, tiring and... frightening. Frightening because I - like all moms and dads - love and cherish my son and daughter-to-be so greatly and the reality is that I have limited control over their health, happiness and future.

So, of course, we as parents do everything within our power to protect and provide for our children - by giving lots of hugs and kisses, teaching them how to look both ways before crossing the street and how to stand up for themselves, and providing them a healthy start to life with nutritious food, active play, doctor visits and solid rest and sleep. Sadly, many moms - and dads - still have to worry when they put their kids to bed at night that they may be bitten by a mosquito that carries malaria, a disease that kills a child in Africa every 60 seconds.

This Mother's Day, consider honoring your mom and everything she did to provide and protect you by sending a life-saving bed net to a mother and child in Africa. It only costs $10 and you can send your mom an e-card notifying her of the gift made in her honor: http://bit.ly/XHrQhe
