It all began on the steps of Houston’s City Hall, where Houston’s Mayor Bill White and Houston City Council Member Ada Edwards held a press conference to proclaim September 17 through September 23, 2007 Nothing But Nets week.
And what a week it was! Nothing But Nets announced a new partnership with the Texas-based ExxonMobil Foundation, one of the largest private sector donors to malaria research and prevention. We also worked with the World Affairs Council of Houston to host a malaria boot camp for 250 high school students at Bellaire High School. The Campaign also partnered with the faith community in Houston and Tyler, TX to host two events for faith leaders, and participated in the World Affairs Council’s "Building Hope for Africa" speaker series featuring keynote speaker Ambassador Richard Holbrooke. And this was all kicked off the week before by the Houston Dynamo during their "Nothing But Nets in-stadium night."
WHEW!
And to top it off, our very own Elizabeth McKee, Director of Nothing But Nets, teamed up with Council Member Ada Edwards to talk about Nothing But Nets and the city's commitment to malaria prevention on Fox 26 in Houston, TX. Watch the video!
Thank you Houston for an incredible week of activities!
